    Essential Job Duties 

    Turf maintenance  

    • Properly manages and maintains turf on all athletic fields within the Parks and Recreation Department grounds.
    • Mows, trims, edges, fertilizes, sods, aerates, and irrigates turf using commercial grade equipment.

    Qualifications:

    Education and Experience: The required knowledge, skill, and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties are normally acquired through obtaining an associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or one to two year related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in turfgrass management.

    JOB TITLE: Groundskeeper Crew
     
    REPORTS TO: Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent
     
    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Under the supervision of the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent, performs routine manual labor involved in golf course maintenance, does semi-skilled grounds construction and maintenance work, operates small hand –powered equipment, and occasionally performs work involving large equipment such as tractors, loaders, and gang mowers.  Each groundskeeper may be assigned responsibility for the care and maintenance of designated areas on the golf course and does related work as required. 

    • Operates mowers and string trimmers in trimming greens, aprons, tees, around trees, fence lines, banks and hillsides, also edges cart paths, rakes, and maintains sand bunkers, 
    • Sets tee markers and cups on greens daily, maintains ball washers, replaces tee towels and flags when needed, removes debris, sands and seeds tee and drop area divots, and cleans flower beds. 
    • Maintains fuel and fluid levels for all types of equipment on a daily basis, reports equipment problems or failure to the equipment manager immediately. 
    • Returns all equipment to the designated location at the maintenance facility, and cleans the maintenance areas. 
    • Under the direction of the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent, the groundskeeper-labor-rough crew marks the course for cart control weekly, moves cart control barriers and replaces worn or lost ropes and signs, and may mark hazard and drop areas. 
    • Waters and fertilize tees, greens, and fairways, and under direct supervision of the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent, sprays chemicals on landscaped areas. 
    • Helps in project work, assists in construction of new greens, tees, and fairways.  Grades and prepares soil base, lays sod, and seeds tees, greens and fairways. 
    • Installs forms and lays walks and paths using gravel and asphalt mixes, excavates and backfills ditches and trenches with hand tools, repairs and replaces pipe on irrigation systems. 
    • May be asked to operate mowers, dump trucks, or other light equipment. 
    • Performs other duties as directed by his/her supervisor. 
    STANDARDS
    • Knowledge methods and materials used in grounds and landscape area construction/maintenance work. 
    • Working knowledge of and ability to use hand and power tools and equipment. 
    • Ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment.

    Job Overview:
    Responsible for operation of the golf course operation and maintenance.     ·         Manages an irrigation system and provides monthly reporting on pump facility and other water source usage.

    ·         Recruits, supervises and retains maintenance staff. Conducts employee performance evaluations and exercises disciplinary action.

    ·         Provides technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that staff is working within OSHA, club safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.

    ·         Oversees subordinates in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment. Plans and budgets for additional or replacement capital equipment.

    The Role
