    Facility Description:                
    Discovery Land Company’s newest golf course community Troubadour.  The golf course is currently under a Tom Fazio renovation with planned Bent grass greens, Zeon Zoysia fairways, Meyer Zoysia intermediate rough, and Tall Fescue along the hole corridors.    

    Position Summary:
    Primary current responsibility is to help with the golf course construction and grow in of new turf.  Responsible for all activities related to the care of common grounds, shop area, and equipment.  Also, applying relevant landscaping, horticultural principles to assure that quality standards are consistently achieved and/or exceeded. Assists the Superintendent with planning and implementing budget and operating plans.  Helps trains and supervises a growing staff. 

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Assist in the development of the annual maintenance budget and operating plan.  Implement the plan according to Company operating policies and procedures to ensure cost containment.
    • Plan and implement staffing schedules to ensure quality standards are achieved at minimum employee cost.
    • Supervise and perform various maintenance duties to maintain the golf course in proper playing condition according to Company standards.
    • Supervise then development and maintenance of drainage, irrigation, pumping and water reservoir systems.
    • Supervise all planting, fertilizing and care of turf, plants, shrubs, and trees on the golf course and grounds. Assist with the development and implementation of a fertilizer, aeration and Integrated Pest Management program for proper turf grass and plant care.
    • Supervise course construction projects.
    • Supervise equipment maintenance and repair operations.  Establish and implement a cleaning and preventative maintenance program for appropriate equipment, tools, vehicles, etc.
    • Ensure maintenance of all appropriate quality and cleanliness standards including, but not limited to, employee hygiene and uniforms, equipment repair areas, equipment storage areas, chemical and fertilizer storage areas, receiving areas, washing areas, lunch room areas, restrooms, etc.
    • Monitor the purchase ordering and receiving program to maintain proper inventories of supplies and ensure proper quantity and price on all purchases.
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, OSHA rules and regulations, relating to chemical and fertilizer storage and disposal, employee safety, public safety, etc.
    • Manage employment activities for applicable staff members, including but not limited to, personnel recruitment and selection, performance evaluations, training, compensation, discipline and termination, etc.
    • Maintain accurate records for pertaining to department activities including, but not limited to, labor schedules, course maintenance, construction activities, equipment repair, safety meetings and activities, fertilizer and chemical applications and pest control practices.  Assure the efficient and timely submission of all required operational, financial, budgetary and related reports.
    • Maintain knowledge of current and projected industry developments through continuous attention to industry periodicals and participation in relevant trade associations and organizations.
    • Perform other duties as appropriate.


    • High school education required, college degree preferred.
    • 2-3 years golf course maintenance, supervisory and/or management experience.
    • Demonstrated experience and capability in the areas of budget development, fiscal management, strategic planning, staff management.
    • Demonstrated quality written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision; work flexible hours as required including weekends.
    • Positive attitude, professional manner and appearance in all situations.

    Working Conditions:

    Work hours may include days and evenings on weekdays and weekends.  Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.  May be exposed to inclement weather, potentially dangerous chemicals, solvents, pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, misdirected golf balls, sharp and rapid equipment movement daily. Injury may result because of exposure to the above if safety policies and practices are not properly followed.

    General office machines such as typewriters, personal computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, calculators, telephones, etc.  Golf cars, trucks, spray equipment, mowers, heavy machinery.

    Physical Requirements:

    Must have the ability to:

    • Read and write (English)
    • Communicate verbally with staff members and/or customers with or without the use of two-way radios.
    • Give and/or follow verbal and written instructions and supervise subordinates
    • Visually inspect all work areas, golf course and grounds
    • See players on the golf course, and to follow the flight of golf balls

    • Retrieve, read and interpret information from technical sources
    • Stand, sit, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, bend and kneel for up to 5 hours at a time

    POSITION: Golf Course Superintendent

    The Golf Course Superintendent of Lonesome Pine Country Club shall be responsible for all 18 holes of golf, Practice Facility, and common areas which shall include, but not be limited to the following:

    Overview: Responsible for operation of the golf course operation and maintenance. The responsibilities include: turf grass/plant material maintenance programs, property/asset management, personnel management, budget/forecasting, financial management, member relations, scheduling/maintenance or irrigation systems, pesticide applications, related recordings, and compliance of regulatory issues. The Golf Course Superintendent works to create an environment where staff is involved and enthusiastic, with open communications and respect for themselves, members, guests and the property.

    Basic Functions:

    • Responsible for all phases of Golf Maintenance and Agronomic operations, cost control, and personnel.
    • Works closely with, advises, and coordinates with the General Manager on any issues related to golf course maintenance.
    • Directs and participates in the construction and maintenance of the grounds.
    • Designs landscape plans for facility grounds and implements the plan.
    • Administers and enforces all Club rules, regulations and policies for staff.
    • Supports and assists with membership seminars and orientations.
    • Works closely with the General Manager and Management Group to operate the Golf Course in a fiscally responsible and professional manner.
    • Must be able to work independently and be a self-starting problem solver.


    Primary Duties:

    • Oversees the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees and wetlands on the facility grounds.
    • Directs and assists the staff on the planting of new vegetation, the replacement, spraying, pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs, the preparation of soil plant beds for aesthetically pleasing arrangements and tending to high stress areas.
    • Provides detailed annual plan for the various property levels and the designated landscaping areas. Includes rotational design to provide facility with fresh, eye-catching, interesting and pleasant atmosphere.
    • Recruits, supervises and retains maintenance staff. Conducts employee performance evaluations and exercises disciplinary action.
    • Provides technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that staff is working within OSHA, club safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.
    • Oversees subordinates in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment. Plans and budgets for additional or replacement capital equipment.
    • Supervises and participates in the application and recording of chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides) on the Club's grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Supervises and controls all maintenance expenses associated with Golf Course Operations, including payroll, supplies, chemicals and fertilizers.
    • Develops annual operating budget and plans for maintenance and capital improvement projects.
    • Maintains records and completes required reporting. Order parts, supplies and equipment as needed.
    • Schedules maintenance practices around member play and outings to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption to members.
    • Coordinate winter maintenance activities when necessary.
    • Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.


    Annual Salary 45k-55k

    Purpose of Job

    Assist the Crew Chief by being responsible for repairing and maintaining safe playing surfaces and its surrounding components for baseball, softball, football and multipurpose fields by performing daily turf, dirt and water management; timely fertility and cultural practices; game preparation techniques and short and long-term maintenance planning.  Responsibilities also include 10- disc golf course, basketball courts and tennis courts.

    Must be able to work holidays, weekends and nights during sporting/special events.

    Essential Job Duties 

    Turf maintenance: 

    • Properly manages and maintains turf on all athletic fields within the Parks and Recreation Department grounds.
    • Mows, trims, edges, fertilizes, sods, aerates, and irrigates turf using commercial grade equipment.
    • Maintains, repairs and installs irrigation systems on athletic fields. Assist in controlling the entire irrigation system that includes, but is not limited to, proper water management of the playing surface and outside landscape, periodic maintenance checks, repairing of leaking lines or valves, and winterization.
    • Paints outfield foul lines, numbers, and logos on all athletic fields.
    • Performs general maintenance as necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition.

    Infield maintenance

    • Properly maintains infields on all athletic fields within the Parks and Recreation Department grounds.
    • Drags, rakes, conditions, and replenishes materials as needed to maintain infields.
    • Prepares fields for games by grooming field, chalking base path foul lines and marking coaching boxes.
    • Builds and maintains all bases, mounds and other field necessities.
    • Responsible for coordination and execution of infield tarps on daily basis and during tournaments.                           

    Job Requirements:

    Education and Experience: The required knowledge, skill, and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties are normally acquired through obtaining an associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or one to two year related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in turfgrass management. 

    Required Certifications/Licenses:

    A Tennessee Department of Agriculture Certified Pesticide Applicators License for C03 is required for this job. (Must be obtained within 6 months)

    TN Driver’s License

    CPR Certification (Must be obtained within 6 months)

    Memphis National Golf Club is currently seeking a 1st Assistant Superintendent. The club is a 36-hole facility with over 700 members and is located in Collierville, TN. Both courses have Champion Bermuda greens, however the layouts are completely different. Champions course is a continuous 18-hole layout that offers tree lined fairways and smaller greens, while the Legends course is more open, but still demanding off the tee with larger greens. The two courses offer members different challenges and experiences each time out. In 2017 the club completed a capital improvement project, which included a complete re-design and renovation of bunkers. Several drainage projects were also completed, which enhanced the design and playability of several holes. The club has local owners who are committed to improving the property each day in order to remain successful in the Memphis Golf Market.

    The 1st Assistant must be a motivated individual with a strong passion for the golf business. As a key member of the maintenance team, the assistant reports directly to the superintendent and oversees daily operations and agronomic practices each day. A strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize effectively are critical for this position.

    Memphis National Golf Club is a private 36 hole facility located in Collierville, TN, 30 minutes from downtown Memphis.  The Equipment Manager is a key employee in the maintenance department responsible for the heart of the operation.  Currently the equipment package is made up of leased and owned equipment.  The owners of the property are fully committed to having the right equipment and people in place to continue the clubs success each year.  A trained technician is currently on staff to help during heavy work loads.

    The Equipment Manager is under the direct supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent. The Equipment Manager is responsible for the daily care of all maintenance equipment and the maintenance facility itself.

    1. Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical failures in various types of equipment including but not limited to diesel and gasoline engines, two and four cycle small engines and electric malfunctions. Diagnoses issues regarding hydrostatic drive systems, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
    2. Understand the set up of all types of mowing equipment includes (blade sharpening, reel grinding and bedknife grinding).
    3. Instructs and trains golf course maintenance workers regarding the preventative maintenance, proper cleaning of and safe operation of equipment.

    5. Maintains a preventive maintenance schedule within budget on all equipment, part purchases, and replacement supplies unless prior approval is obtained.
    6. Oversees the shop maintenance area and is responsible for its up keep.
    7. Orders and obtains all replacement parts needed for equipment repair
    8. Must be able to maintain a quality cut on all reel and rotary mowers

    Job Requirements

    • Previous experience as mechanic or shop manager of golf course operation.
    • Ability to maintain a current preventative maintenance log.
    • Maintain a safe, clean work space on a daily basis and hold others to the same standard.
    • Valid Drivers License is required
